Has the self-care trend made us forget how we need to take basic care of ourselves?
Face masks, twelve-step skincare routines, meditation apps, candles, matcha lattes … Spend your moneys, but most of all spend it alone.
Has the self-care trend isolated us?
In our pursuit of wellness, many of us have turned inward, devoting our time, energy, and resources to individual practices that often come with a hefty price tag. But as we focus on our own well-being, we may unintentionally neglect the very connections that bring richness and meaning to our lives. The more we prioritize “me” time, the less we invest in “we” time – the shared experiences that foster a sense of belonging and support.
Consider the self-care rituals that have become so commonplace today: the hours spent pampering our skin with elaborate routines or immersing ourselves in guided meditations. While these practices can certainly offer temporary respite from life’s stresses, they may also create a false sense of security – one that leaves us feeling more disconnected from the people and communities that sustain us.
